According to Variety, Long is set to star in a reboot of Grave Encounters and will also serve as a producer alongside his wife, Kate Bosworth.
Originally released in 2011, Grave Encounters is a Canadian found footage horror film directed and written by Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, known as The Vicious Brothers. The film features Sean Rogerson, Ashleigh Gryzko, Merwin Mondesir, and Mackenzie Gray. The plot centers around a crew filming a reality show inside an abandoned mental hospital who soon discover that the building is haunted—and that it won’t let them leave.
Though it didn’t achieve major box office success upon its release, Grave Encounters has since gained a dedicated cult following. A sequel, Grave Encounters 2, was released in 2012, and there were plans for a third installment that ultimately never materialized.
Minihan and Ortiz are currently developing a new Grave Encounters film, with both serving as producers alongside Shawn Angelski.
Long and Bosworth expressed their enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Our creative connection with Colin was undeniable on Coyotes, and we wanted to continue that relationship as quickly as possible. He is a rare blend of a brilliant filmmaker and a fun collaborator, and we’re excited to help him bring a new vision to one of his first horror gems, Grave Encounters. The original film has a passionate fan base—including ourselves—and our goal is to honor its legacy while delivering something even darker.”
Production is scheduled to begin next year, though a release date has not yet been announced.
