Meghan Markle has officially made her return to acting after an eight-year break. Sources told Deadline that the Duchess of Sussex has joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming film, Close Personal Friends, marking her first acting role since leaving Suits in 2017. Recently, she was spotted filming in Pasadena, California, where People reported she appeared “very relaxed and happy” on set.
According to The Sun, Markle has a minor role in the film, which is directed by Jason Orley and also stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. An insider told People, “She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.” The film is described as a comedy about a couple who meet celebrities during a trip to Santa Barbara. Production began in London before moving to California. Amazon declined to comment on Markle’s involvement.
This project represents Markle’s first scripted acting role since she left Suits prior to her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Aaron Korsh, Suits creator, told Deadline that he had once considered a cameo for Markle in the show’s finale but decided against it out of respect for her “new life.” Markle’s last on-camera appearance was in her Netflix cooking series, With Love, Meghan, which aired two seasons under her Archewell Productions banner. A studio source told The Sun, “It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set.” Another source added that Prince Harry “is really supportive and simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.” The couple currently resides in Santa Barbara with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
