Fans of the popular Brad Pitt movie released in 2025 will be pleased to hear that a sequel has been officially approved. The exciting news comes from the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer.
The film, titled F1: The Movie, is set to return with a sequel. On Tuesday, Bruckheimer attended the Academy Awards luncheon as a nominee for producing F1, the acclaimed sports drama centered around Formula One racing. During a conversation with the BBC, Bruckheimer confirmed that F1 2 is in development. “We’re working on a sequel,” he stated. Although he didn’t reveal specific details about the storyline or cast — including whether Pitt will reprise his role — Bruckheimer mentioned that he will be involved in casting decisions.
His remarks follow a week after Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali hinted at an upcoming announcement regarding the sequel. Domenicali told fans to “stay tuned” for more information, saying, “We’re going to tell you something more in the future. Never say never. We need to fully process the success of this film because it was something truly special. If we decide to move forward with a new one, it has to be really, very good. If it happens, it likely won’t be next year, but maybe next year we’ll be here at the press day with more news to share.”
In the film, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who seeks redemption when a former teammate offers him a chance to race again. Sonny’s main focus is mentoring Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a confident but inexperienced rookie eager to prove himself.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick fame and written by Ehren Kruger, F1 was released in June 2025 and grossed over $633 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film ever for Apple Studios. It received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
