Netflix has secured the U.S. rights to the highly anticipated 2025 comedy film “Sacrifice,” starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy. Directed by Romain Gavras—known for “Athena,” “Our Day Will Come,” and “Les Misérables”—the film also features pop music star Charlie XCX. The deal was facilitated with the assistance of CAA Media Finance and follows the film’s world premiere last year in the Special Presentations section at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

“Sacrifice” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Salma Hayek Pinault, Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, Swedish rapper Yung Lean, Ambika Mod, Jade Croot, Jeremy O. Harris, and Miriam Silverman. The story centers around Joan (Taylor-Joy), a fervent believer driven by a volcanic prophecy only she can hear. She embarks on a mission to prevent a fiery catastrophe, hijacking a glamorous charity event along the way. During the chaos, she takes three hostages—movie star Mike Tyler, billionaire Bracken, and unlucky-in-life Katie—and leads them on a wild, comedic journey through forests and flames. The film explores themes of sacrifice, culminating in Mike facing a profound choice: what would he give up for humanity? The production team includes Robert Walak, Jacob Perlin, Gavras, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Smieja-Rostworowska, and Giorgios Karnavas, with Taylor-Joy and Evans serving as executive producers.

Regarding the lead actors, Taylor-Joy recently appeared in the Apple TV+ sci-fi action film “The Gorge” (2025) and is set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Lucky.” She will also reprise her role as Alia Atreides in “Dune: Part Three,” scheduled for release in December later this year.

Chris Evans was last seen in “Materialists” and “Honey Don’t!” last year. Fans can look forward to his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026 with “Avengers: Doomsday,” where he will reprise his iconic role as Steve Rogers/Captain America.
