Disney is set to bring Tinker Bell to life in her own live-action series, streaming soon on Disney+. The beloved fairy character was originally created by J. M. Barrie for his 1904 play Peter Pan, which he later adapted into the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy. Tinker Bell gained widespread fame through Disney’s 1953 animated film Peter Pan, where she became an iconic character—second only to Mickey Mouse as Disney’s unofficial mascot.
According to Deadline, Disney has officially announced a new live-action series titled Tink, which will focus on the fairy’s adventures. The show is being developed by Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, both experienced television writers and executive producers.
Interestingly, a live-action Tinker Bell project was previously in development in 2015, with actress Reese Witherspoon attached to star. However, that project was reimagined in 2021 after Disney Branded Television’s then-President and Chief Creative Officer, Gary Marsh, stepped down and launched his own Disney-backed venture. Marsh now serves as an executive producer on Tink, alongside Heldens and Carpenter. Quinn Haberman is also on board as an executive producer for the production company Selfish Mermaid.
Details about the plot are currently being kept under wraps, and no casting choices or release date have been announced yet.
Both Heldens and Carpenter, longtime friends and collaborators, bring extensive experience to the project. Heldens has worked on series such as Friday Night Lights, Mercy, Will Trent, and others, while Carpenter has contributed to shows including Bionic Woman, Dead Like Me, Parenthood, and 11.22.63.
Tinker Bell, who has appeared in numerous Disney movies and TV shows over the years, was most recently portrayed by Yara Shahidi in the 2023 film Peter Pan & Wendy. Fans can look forward to seeing how this new live-action series expands on her enchanting story.
