Where Are They Now? : Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker Child Star, Kelley Parker

Kelley Parker captured the hearts of a generation as one of the young stars in Michael Jackson’s 1988 film Moonwalker. Playing Katie in the “Smooth Criminal” segment alongside Sean Lennon and Brandon Quintin Adams, she brought innocence and spunk to the story of children befriended by the King of Pop who witness his heroic battle against a gangster. Her wide-eyed performance in the extended music video sequences left an indelible mark on pop culture, making her a recognizable face for fans of Jackson’s Bad era.

Parker’s journey into acting began at a tender age. Born with a natural talent for performance, she landed her first notable television role in 1986 on the family drama Highway to Heaven, appearing as Sarah Moore. This early exposure opened doors in a competitive industry. By the late 1980s, she was auditioning for major projects, eventually securing the Moonwalker gig through a nationwide casting call. Her relaxed demeanor around Jackson—unfazed by his superstar status—helped her stand out, as she later reflected in interviews.

The Moonwalker experience was transformative. Working with Jackson, who directed and starred in key segments, instilled in young Parker a deep appreciation for creativity and collaboration. She described him as encouraging and kind, fostering her confidence not just as a performer but as a creative thinker. The film, blending music videos, shorts, and narrative, became a staple for young fans, cementing Parker’s place in entertainment history even as her on-screen acting roles remained selective.

After Moonwalker, Parker continued acting sporadically. She appeared in shorts like Salute Your Shorts (1990) and Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing & Charm School (in both short and feature forms), showcasing her versatility. She also contributed choreography later in her career, including work on Disney’s Tangled (2010), which earned a Golden Globe nomination. These experiences bridged her child-star phase with a broader understanding of production.

As she matured, Parker made a pivotal shift away from the spotlight. Recognizing her passion for the creative process beyond performing, she pursued education in film, finance, and cultural anthropology at California State University Northridge. This multifaceted background equipped her with the skills to navigate the business side of entertainment, moving from in front of the camera to behind the scenes in her early twenties.

Today, Kelley Parker stands as a seasoned executive producer, creator, and showrunner with an impressive track record in unscripted television, live events, and theater. Her credits include high-profile projects like World of Dance (co-executive producer across multiple seasons), Clash of the Cover Bands (executive producer), and Dancing with Myself. She has collaborated with major networks and studios, including NBC, FOX, Netflix, and Apple TV+.

Parker’s recent work highlights her expertise in large-scale productions. In 2025, she served as Executive Producer and Showrunner for the groundbreaking Formula 1 F175 Live at the O2 event, broadcast to audiences in 42 countries and drawing record viewership. She has also been involved in music-focused series like KPOPPED for Apple TV+ and Building The Band for Netflix, as well as reviving classics with Star Search

Beyond television, Parker thrives in live entertainment and theater. She has produced immersive experiences for Norwegian Cruise Lines, worked on Formula 1 grid performances and ceremonies, and opened the off-West End musical Scissorhandz to critical acclaim, with plans for a New York run. Her choreography roots—seen in tours with artists like Britney Spears and Madonna—continue to inform her dynamic approach to staging spectacular events.
