According to Deadline, it has been officially announced that Cameron Diaz will star in a sequel to the beloved 1989 comedy Troop Beverly Hills. The project is currently in development by TriStar Pictures.
Troop Beverly Hills is a comedy film about a Beverly Hills woman who unexpectedly becomes the leader of her daughter’s scouting troop. The film features Shelly Long, Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, and others, and is directed by Jeff Kanew.
The original movie follows Beverly Hills housewife Phyllis Nefler (played by Shelly Long), who, amid her divorce, finds confidence by leading a Wilderness Girls troop. Despite her luxurious approach—such as spending nights at the Beverly Hills Hotel—her troop members enjoy the adventure. The story takes a turn when Phyllis clashes with a rival leader, putting the troop’s future at risk unless they can demonstrate their wilderness skills at the annual jamboree.
While plot details for the upcoming sequel are still under wraps, it is known that the film is being written and directed by Clea DuVall. DuVall, who starred in But I’m a Cheerleader, made her feature film directorial debut in 2016 with The Intervention and also directed the 2020 holiday film Happiest Season.
A release date for the Troop Beverly Hills sequel has not yet been announced.
