Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Verity, an upcoming psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s novel. The film stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, and is scheduled for release in theaters on October 2, 2026.
The story centers on renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who moves to the secluded Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. As Lowen delves into Verity’s seemingly autobiographical notes, she begins to uncover disturbing and twisted confessions involving Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett). The synopsis hints at a narrative where fiction blurs with reality, manipulation intertwines with attraction, and obsession takes hold.
While the teaser offers only a glimpse of the film’s plot, it sets a dark, mysterious tone. It features Dakota Johnson’s character, Lowen, who is tasked with caring for bestselling author Verity Crawford. During her stay at the Crawford estate, along with Verity’s husband Jeremy, Lowen develops a relationship with him and uncovers unsettling secrets about Verity.
Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca, Verity is adapted from Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name. The film continues a tradition of adaptations of Hoover’s popular works. Alongside Hathaway, Johnson, and Hartnett, the cast includes Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, Michael Abbott Jr., and Alex Cooper.
