EXCLUSIVE interviews

Exclusive Interview with Chloe Sofia

1. Congratulations on your new song being played on the radio! How did it feel to hear it for the first time on air?

It was honestly a bit of a shock to hear my Song air on a radio Channel only 2 weeks after it’s release, but I was very happy to see it gaining traction. I would say that overall, I felt very appreciated.

2. What inspired the lyrics and melody of this song? Was there a specific moment or experience that sparked your creativity?

I had first thought of this song as a story before Even writing the lyrics or the Melody. But I knew that I wanted a cooler, but exciting sound, which is what inspired some of the Melody, instruments, and beat. To dive into specifics, I definitely tend to write around the hook line. I knew I wanted a clever way of saying “you’re heartless” and that I wanted to build my song around the Idea of inner beauty, which is why I chose to follow the narrative of a very pretty person who ends up being very cold and heartless (hence the hook line “baby keep pretending you got a pulse”). To summarize, I find a lot of my inspiration from books that I read, which help me come up with a storyline to follow in my songs.

3. If you could choose one artist to collaborate with on a future project, who would it b e and why?

If I had the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, it would have to be Avril Lavigne. Though my songs are a lot less edgy, I feel that her vocals and songwriting could bring that element into my style and create a really interesting pop-rock sounding song. I’ve been a fan of Avril for a long time, being a Canadian singer/songwriter I look up to her a lot as well.

4. What’s the most memorable reaction you’ve received from a fan about your music?

I don’t think there’s any specific interaction that stood out more than the others. But there’s a collection of different people that I recall reaching out to me to tell me they loved my song, people I hadn’t seen in years, people I talk to everyday, and even people I’ve never known. It was so special to me to be able to see how my song resonated with people and the sheer amount of strangers that fell in love with it.

5. If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and what makes that location special to you?

If I had my pick of venues around the world, I would still just want to play at Scotiabank Arena. Ever since I was little I would see all the big artists come to Toronto and perform at Scotiabank Arena and I even went to see the Olivia Rodrigo concert there myself. I’ve even had people tell me that they’d come to see me if I played there one day, and I think it’s a really big dream of mine that I’ve always wanted to realize, even if I could go anywhere.

6. What’s your go-to song to lift your spirits when you’re having a tough day?

When I’m having a bad day I actually tend to listen to 2010s pop music, like Blank Space by Taylor Swift. I grew up with that kind of music and when I put it on in the car, I can’t help but roll the windows down and scream along.

7. If you could have dinner with any three musicians, living or dead, who would you invite and what would you want to talk about?

If I could invite any three musicians, I would choose Taylor Swift, Clive Davis (even though he’s a producer), and Lucian Grainge (even though he’s not a musician). I chose these people so I could have three different conversations. The first (with Taylor Swift) about songwriting and marketing, the second (with Clive Davis) about production, and the third (with Lucian Grainge) about music business, as he has served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Universal Music Group since 2010.
