The festival kicks off in style on Thursday, June 12, at Luna Leederville with an Opening Night Reception for Samana Sunrise. Doors open at 6:15 PM, with the film screening at 7:00 PM. One of the festival’s highlights is the Australian premiere of El Jockey, a stylish and unconventional thriller directed by Luis Ortega, known for his acclaimed work on El Ángel. This absurdist tale delves into the chaotic life of Remo Manfredini (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart), a legendary jockey whose self-destructive tendencies threaten to unravel his career and personal life. His partner, Abril (Úrsula Corberó, Money Heist), is an ambitious jockey pregnant with Remo’s child, navigating her own path to success in the high-stakes world of horse racing. Both ride for Sirena (Daniel Giménez Cacho), a ruthless mobster with a hold over Remo’s past.
