Hulu has released an exclusive first look at “The Testaments,” the upcoming sequel series to “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Set to debut in April 2026, the series is inspired by Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name. It takes place in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead, years after the events of the original show. According to the official description, “The Testaments” is a coming-of-age story that follows a new generation of young women in Gilead, who are navigating a bleak future. Having grown up entirely within the confines of Gilead, these women have no memories of the outside world before their indoctrination. Confronted with the possibility of arranged marriages and lives of servitude, they must seek allies—both familiar and new—in their struggle for freedom and the life they deserve.

The series features a cast including Ann Dowd, Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, and Birva Pandya. Creator and showrunner Bruce Miller leads the project, with executive producers Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker, who will direct the first three episodes. MGM Television is producing the series.

“The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel, aired on Hulu for six seasons from 2017 until its conclusion earlier this year. The first look photos, initially unveiled at the CCXP film festival in São Paulo, Brazil, are available above and below.
