Nancy Meyers Returns: Star-Studded Holiday Comedy Set for 2027 Release

Nancy Meyers is making her highly anticipated return to the film industry, promising to deliver another signature blend of glamour, warmth, and heartfelt storytelling that has defined her career. The legendary filmmaker, whose name has become synonymous with the glossy, aspirational films she pioneered—featuring star-studded casts and irresistible charm—has announced her upcoming project, a new untitled comedy set for release on Christmas Day 2027 through Warner Bros.

This star-studded venture marks Meyers’ first major directorial effort in years, and it’s already generating buzz within Hollywood circles. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, Emma Mackey, and Owen Wilson. While specifics about the plot remain under wraps, sources confirm that this project is a reimagining of “Paris Paramount,” a film Meyers initially set up at Netflix in spring 2023.

Meyers previously described “Paris Paramount” as a behind-the-scenes look at a group of people making a film, exploring the magic and mystery inherent in the creative process. However, negotiations with Netflix fell through when the film’s budget ballooned to $150 million—exceeding the streamer’s willingness to invest, which was capped at $130 million. The economics of streaming movies, with their different financial structures and talent compensation models, played a role in the breakdown. Notably, Scarlett Johansson was initially attached to star but eventually moved on to other projects, including Universal’s “The Exorcist,” while remaining with Warner Bros. for her role in “The Batman II.”

Despite the setback with Netflix, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group heads Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca stepped in to revive Meyers’ vision. They struck a deal that allowed the project to proceed, with Meyers returning to write and direct the film. She will also serve as a producer alongside Ilona Herzberg, with Diana Pokorny set as executive producer.

Meyers’ films have long been box office favorites, grossing over $1 billion worldwide across classics like “What Women Want,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “The Holiday,” “It’s Complicated,” and the “Father of the Bride” franchise. Her talent for blending comedy, romance, and relatable characters has earned her numerous accolades, including an Oscar nomination for her original screenplay for “Private Benjamin” in 1981. Currently, a remake of her Diane Keaton comedy “Baby Boom,” helmed by Michael Showalter, is underway at Amazon MGM.

The cast lineup reflects Meyers’ knack for attracting top-tier talent. Cruz, fresh off a remarkable Sundance performance in Olivia Wilde’s “The Invite,” is repped by CAA, Untitled, Kuranda, and The Lede Company. Culkin, an Oscar winner, is represented by WME and Brookside Artist Management. Jude Law, who previously collaborated with Meyers on “The Holiday,” is repped by CAA, Julian Belfrage Associates, Jackoway Austen, ID, and Pippa Beng. Emma Mackey, known for “Sex Education” and “Ella McCay,” is repped by CAA, Relevant, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and Ziffren Brittenham. Owen Wilson is represented by UTA and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman LLP.

As Nancy Meyers steps back into the director’s chair, her return is poised to excite audiences eager for her signature blend of wit, glamour, and genuine emotion. With a stellar cast, a compelling script, and the backing of Warner Bros., her next film promises to be a must-see event in holiday 2027. Fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see Meyers once again demonstrate why her films continue to captivate and inspire.
