Hayley Kiyoko has dropped her third studio album, Girls Like Girls the Album, just ahead of the premiere of her feature film Girls Like Girls next week.
Available now through One Riot, KRO, Rich Youth Records, and Virgin Music Group, the 14-track album expands the narrative universe of Kiyoko’s highly anticipated directorial debut, which hits theaters on June 19th. The film, inspired by her hit single and bestselling novel of the same name, explores themes of first love, self-discovery, and growing up during a single summer.
This album is Kiyoko’s first full-length release since 2022 and features collaborations with artists such as Young Miko, Tegan and Sara, Chelsea Cutler, Joy Oladokun, August Ponthier, Gigi Perez, and Snow Wife. In addition to songs featured in the film, the record includes original tracks inspired by its characters and storyline.
Kiyoko shares her vision behind the project: “I dreamed of a world where people would see Girls Like Girls in theaters and then come home to an album that continues the story,” she explains. “Some of these songs stemmed from ideas I had when I was 16, experiencing the same emotions portrayed in the film. Sharing these ten new songs, inspired by scenes from the movie, felt like completing this creative journey.”
Highlights from the album include “nobody should have you,” featuring Chelsea Cutler, which captures the suffocating intensity of teenage desire—the way a crush can shrink the entire world to a single room and one person. Another standout is “periwinkle princess,” already a fan-favorite deep cut, which transforms first love into a chaotic, energetic explosion. It’s about stumbling, drunk, toward someone you want to love better, wired with raw emotion and rebellious spirit.
Girls Like Girls signifies a decade-long journey for Kiyoko, evolving from her breakthrough 2015 single into a novel, a feature film, and now, this companion album.
