THE HIT LIST

The Hit List: Ty Dolla $ign, Matt Wills, Kygo, Labrinth,Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Pale Waves…

Ty Dolla $ign – “Pineapple (feat. Gucci Mane & Quavo)”: Pineapple is the latest single for artist Ty Dolla $ign off his recently reissued deluxe edition of “Beach House 3”. He recruited heavily by acquiring the talents of Gucci Mane and Migos rapper Quavo for this hot new single, that I can see hitting number 1 on the urban charts. The unique video see’s a pineapple strutting down a sidewalk to panoramic beach shots, women dancing in Hawaiian grass skirts and the rappers driving a sports car. 2017 and 2018 have been a huge year for Ty who has appeared as a co-writer, co-producer and/or guest artist on multiple projects, including Post Malone’s Number One single “Psycho,” Beyoncé and Jay Z’s surprise album “Love Is Everything” and Kanye West’s chart-topping “Ye”. There’s no slowing down for Ty and this song is a definite must add to your playlist.

Matt Wills – “Blame”: Britain’s Matt Wills is a soulful vocalist who has similar musical traits to that of Ed Sheeran or Shawn Mendes. Originally from Kent, Wills first began writing songs at age 13, and it was after he moved to London to attend drama school at age 16 that he began attracting attention with his bittersweet love songs and dance pop. He released his debut EP in 2014, “She Has No Name”, featuring the single “Aeroplanes.” The next year he released yet another EP called “Lost And Found”, and in 2016 Wills returned with the single “Hurricane”. Now the soulful singer is back with the hit single “Blame”. I love everything this song is about, both musically, vocally and lyrically. Check it out.

Taylor Swift – “Delicate (Sawyr and Ryan Tedder Remix)”: Swifts new single has already peaked in the top 30 of the Billboard charts, rising to the number 28 slot. But now it has a whole new interest with the release of a remix version of “Delicate” that features the production talents of Sawyr and Ryan Tedder, which has catapulted the song to the number 9 spot on the Digital Song Sales chart. Swift wrote the song with producers Max Martin and Shellback about “what happens when you meet somebody that you really want in your life and then you start worrying about what they’ve heard before they met you”. I love the new life this track has been given and I’m sure you will be too.

Kygo & Imagine Dragons – “Born To Be Yours”: Such a unique combination of artists but somehow they’ve made it work, Kygo and Imagine Dragons debuted at number 3 on the Billboard dance charts with “Born To Be Yours”. It’s the Norwegian DJ’s seventh top 10 single, and the rock band’s first on these charts. The collaboration has started with 4.8 million U.S. streams and 32,000 downloads sold, and peaked at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, where Kygo collects his second leader. This song is already amassing major radio air play and Kygo will be the DJ everyone wants to work with now.

Dice Soho – “SSP (feat. Ty Dolla $ign and Desiigner)”: Veteran producer and engineer Mike Dean, who is best known for his excellent work with Kanye West and rest of G.O.O.D. Music, started his own label N.W.A. last year and signed Texas artist Dice Soho as his first artist. He acquired the help of Ty Dolla $ign to help him out on the vocals, which certainly isn’t a bad move seeing as his the go to guy for features now days. Ty Dolla Sign and Desiigner are both coming off the release of new projects. Last week, Desiigner released his long awaited “Life Of Desiigner EP” and then today Ty Dolla Sign released the deluxe edition of his “Beach House 3” album, adding 6 new songs to it. This song has potential to spark anyone’s playlist.

Jess Glynne – “I’ll Be There”: This is the brand new single from UK pop artist Jess Glynne, who saw her debut album drop back in 2015. It sold over 2 million copies and achieved over a billion streams, and reached number 1 on the Australian ITunes charts. Her album went multi platinum and became a defining pop record, as she went on to sell out arena’s all over the world. Jess’s intimate and universal themes in her lyrics connected with people as she demonstrated her peerless ability to tell the truths young women want to hear about, the loves that build them up and let them down; the aspirations and dreams that might turn sour but you’ll smile through them anyway. “I’ll Be There” continues that success of her previous works and is already garnering huge radio play.

GLADES – “Do Right”: These guys are a Sydney pop trio that have had a massive 2017 and to finish off there successful run they have released the single “Do Right”. This synth pop track carry’s a basic message of looking out for each other and treating everyone right. A basic message that the world truly needs right now. We all need a little extra love and a little extra push to do the right thing every now and then and that is what this song succeeds at. This single is a little less alternative and just embraces their pop roots whole heatedly. And what’s great about that is that it doesn’t sound forced at all. it’s very natural and genuine. You should probably add this to your summer playlists because it’s going to be hot.

Pale Waves – “Kiss”: Pale Waves release another tale that sounds like it’s set in the 80’s. The sounds of the ’80s have been a contemporary pop music fixation for years now, whether an act started out by emulating the sound or shifted their image altogether. But Manchester’s Pale Waves might as well be from the actual ’80s. Embodying the sounds similar to Paramore, they turn matters of the heart into matters of life and death, where the slightest inkling of love turns into an intense, all-consuming obsession. These guys are totally under rated, and have potential to be one of the biggest bands in the UK and US. I am going to promote these guys as much as I can because I believe in them and I’m hoping you also become a Pale Waves fan too….but after listening to their music I don’t think you’ll need much convincing.

Labrinth – “Same Team (feat. Stefflon Don)”: It’s been a while since we’ve heard from singer and songwriter Labrinth, but thankfully he’s back better then ever. The UK artist has teamed up with Stefflon Don to recreate their winning dynamic. On “Same Team” Labrinth and Stefflon Don play friends first, lovers second. Of course this definition of romance is hard to come by, popular music always finds a way to keep the people honest and hungry. “Same Time” is obviously more in line with the music Labrinth likes to compose. Labrinth’s has incredible skill when it comes to music making and producer Diplo once described Labrinth as a genius, after penning the song of the same name. Such a great song.

Charli XCX – “Focus”: She has always been one of the underestimated queens of pop, but much to the joy of many Charli XCX has a hot streak of experimental pop bangers on there way “Focus” and “No Angel.” The real question is whether or not any of these releases will be a runaway hit. Charli has been there before, with “I Love It,” “Fancy” and “Boom Clap”; more recently, she’s pushed herself into a world outside of the expected and the radio-friendly. She’s an artist who leaves even casual fans puzzled as to why she’s not constantly Number One on the charts. Hopefully we see her sparking the Billboard charts soon.
