THE HIT LIST

The Hit List: Sam Smith, Ty Dolla $ign, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Rudimental, Loren Gray…

Lauren Jauregui – “More Than That”: Lauren Jauregui moves on with solo life as “More Than That” arrives. Produced by Charlie Handsome & Murda Beatz, “More Than That” is the former Fifth Harmony singer’s second official solo single, following 2018’s smash hit song “Expectations.” The 22-year-old’s first full-length album is due out later this year and fans can not wait. On the smooth R&B track, Jauregui rebukes the advances of a special someone while asserting her independence and worth. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Jauregui noted that she had been writing songs for years but had felt creatively stifled before she began working on the music meant for her forthcoming LP; “Once Fifth [Harmony] was over was when the shackles [came off],” she said at the time. “I can’t create when I feel stifled. That’s just not in my capacity. I need to feel free”, Jauregui stated.

Sam Smith & Normani – “Dancing with a Stranger”: From one ex-Fifth Harmony member to another. “Dancing With a Stranger” is the result of a chance meeting between Smith and Normani: Smith was writing new music at a Los Angeles studio while Normani recorded in the studio next door. The two singers professed to be fans of each other’s work before Smith recruited Normani for the single. “Dancing With a Stranger” marks Smith’s second song in a month following the release of his song “Fire on Fire.” Describing the lyrics of the single, Smith said in a Capitol Records press release that the song “bottles everything I was feeling whilst juggling my personal life and touring.”

Loren Gray – “Kick You Out”: Loren Gray tries to overcome a difficult breakup on her infectious new single “Kick You Out”. She worked with songwriter/producer Ido Zmishlany (responsible for works by Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato), the YouTube-star-turned-musician expresses her heartbreak in lyrics set to a catchy melody and upbeat bassline. The story describes both the highs and lows of being in love. The official video for “Kick You Out,” was directed by Jake Wilson. Loren wrote the treatment herself and invited her friend and fellow performer Grant Knoche (Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn) to appear in it with her. This single introduces the world to 16-year-old Loren’s distinct brand of pop: edgy, stylish, unapologetic, and empowering. Loren has been obsessed with music her entire life. Growing up in the Philadelphia area, she began playing piano at a young age and spent her childhood listening to everything from classic rock and country to heavy metal and hip-hop. At 15, she uprooted herself and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. After cutting six records as an independent artist, Loren landed a deal with Virgin Records in early 2018. Kehlani – “Nights Like This (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)”: Kehlani’s debut album “SexySweetSavage” was released in January 2017, and since then she has been garnering more and more fans as well praise for her incredible music. Kehlani is back stronger than ever with her new single “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. During her interview on Beats 1 with Zane Lowe, Kehlani announced that she’s working on two new projects, a mixtape and an album. The mixtape will be released later in 2019, while Kehlani began work on the album in September 2018 – she calls it “one of the most serious projects that I’ve ever worked on.” In the accompanying video, Kehlani plays a scientist who reassembles a robot that lands at her doorstep. They establish a bond before the robot takes over her body and eventually burns down her house and kills Ty. Be sure to check out the single below.

3LAU – “Would You Understand (feat. Carly Paige)”: 3LAU (real name Justin Blau), has had a huge 2018 in the world of EDM. After the release of his album, “Ultraviolet”, and the debut of his very own crypto-fueled music gathering, Our Music Festival, the Las Vegas native has been on a steady upward. Now in 2019, 3LAU releases his latest single called “Would You Understand” featuring Carly Paige. He teamed up with Paige’s previously on “Touch,” which hit #1 on iTunes’ Electronic Chart. This song is about two people who’ve fallen out of step with one another, but at least one of them can see the light at the end of the awkward tunnel. It doesn’t have to be a breakup either. Sometimes, people and ideas drift apart. Be sure to check out this future chart topper below.

Rudimental – “Scared Of Love (feat. Ray BLK & Stefflon Don)”: Rudimental tease the British four-piece’s third studio album “Toast To Our Differences” with the new single “Scared Of Love” featuring Ray BLK and Stefflon Don. Full of classic house flavors, the track is a feel good jam, elevated by Ray BLK’s glistening vocal hooks and Stefflon Don’s sharp, rapid-fire verses, spotlighting just how bold, diverse and expansive the Rudimental sound has become. Having already debuted three singles from the new album, the UK #1 ‘These Days’ ft. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen, the biggest-selling record of 2018 in the UK. I’m sure “Scared Of Love” will be set to follow in the same footsteps as it’s predecessors.
