The bouncy, smooth R&B banger of a track showcases the story of a budding young love over slick 808s, punctuated by a massive earworm of a hook from the 17 year old singer/songwriter. In the video, Kel plays the new kid at school, crushing across clique lines. Competing with a typical Jock archetype, he proves that labels don’t matter when it comes to feelings and human connection, and that above all else, love conquers all.

“Y.O.U.” is Luh Kel’s first new song since the release of his adored debut project, Mixed Emotions, released at the end of 2019. The twelve-track project is bolstered by his breakout hit, “Wrong,” which hit the Top 40 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart when he was just 16 years old and has quickly earned a Platinum certification from the RIAA. With features from names like PNB Rock and Jay Gwuapo and production collaborations handled by Jonnyshipes (CMG founder), BubbaGotBeatz11VN and more, the project showcases his natural gift of melody and wise beyond his years’ songwriting and storytelling abilities. Recently, Luh Kel shared the visual for Mixed Emotions track “Tweakin” featuring IV Jay (watch HERE), which has amassed over 3 million views in just a few weeks.

Along with his chart success, TikTok recently named Luh Kel one of the top artists of 2019 on the platform, where organic user-generated videos of “Wrong” and several other Mixed Emotions cuts helped him join the company of artists like Lil Nas XBillie EilishLizzo and Stunna Girl.  Just shy of his 18th birthday, Luh Kel’s direct and honest relationship with his rapidly growing legion of fans have gained him close to 2 million Instagram followers alone, along with over 1 million subscribers to his YouTube channel, where his music videos have amassed close to 200 million views to date.

Recently, Luh Kel played a headline hometown show in St. Louis at a sold-out FuBar, after having just performed at Rolling Loud Los Angeles to close out 2019. Last year, he toured alongside Polo G at 1500-plus sized venues across North America. Stay tuned for headlining dates across North America to be announced soon.

All of this sets the stage for a true break-out year as Luh Kel continues to be one of the biggest artists to watch of 2020.

Freddie Future’s brand new video for his single “Too Heavy” is available now, from award-winning director Colin G Cooper (Jessie Reyez, Emotional Oranges, Rezz, Rynx). Shot over three days, the moody video takes place in Toronto’s Mod Club Theatre, along with an unknown location on an eerie dock and as well as a desolate farm.

“I wanted to create something that would feel like an evolution of the ideas previously presented in the lyric videos for this EP,” Cooper says. “Those videos felt like quick glimpses into Freddie’s world, and now we’re bringing you fully inside of it, pulling all of those ideas together, and expanding on them. The central concept, much like the EP itself, is grounded in a relationship dynamic, and I wanted that dynamic to have a surreal, dreamlike quality to it.”

The song deals with carrying the weight of a relationship on your own and the video takes themes and objects from Freddie Future’s previous lyric videos, including the five main elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. “You’ll have to watch all seven lyric videos to get all the references in this music video. It’s something really special for my day ones.” Freddie Future says.

Freddie is working on a ton of new music to be released in the next few months, working with various talented writers and artists in Toronto. “Collaborating always brings fresh ideas to the table and I vibe best with like-minded creatives that are on the same page.”

James Blonde is more than the sum of its parts; the Canadian alternative / rock band was born when Neil Carson, Phil Taylor and Steph Mercier came together to form the singular entity known by this name. The band acts as a conduit, taking inspiration from the turn of 21st century’s rock resurgeance of bands like Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Billy Talent & MGMT with the great classic rock bands, to pump out electric performances both on stage and in the studio.

The band kicked off their first concert as James Blonde in their hometown of Niagara Falls for NYE 2017, opening for Sam Roberts Band and Serena Ryder. However, the trio had already been together for years under an old moniker, touring the country and playing major festivals like Osheaga, Edgefest and CMW. James Blonde’s first album (self-titled) was released in 2017, with the lead single “Heartbreak” getting picked up by major Spotify playlists and Starbucks, which added the song to it’s in-store radio across the globe. “Sh!tshow”, the bands follow-up single in 2019, reached #96 on the US Top 40 charts. The last few years have seen the band become an indie touring juggernaut, having played extensively across Canada and the USA from coast to coast, delivering high-octane performances, precise musicianship and memorable moments for fans at every show.

But that was then, and this is now: James Blonde is currently working on a new record, which will be released in the form of singles over the next couple years as the band continues to tour all over North America.

Bridesmen is Los Angeles based Kenton Chen, an indie neo-soul, R&B singer/songwriter who has set out to encourage others to find power within themselves and use compassion to enact change. Known for his work on NBC’s Sing-Off, as well as his performances with Postmodern Jukebox and Scary Pockets, Chen’s latest project is a radical departure from his jazz/a cappella roots. Chen strives to explore the darker side of human nature, the dichotomy of morality and how to be a good person in a world that ostracizes you, i.e. a ‘bridesmen’ at a wedding.

The root of the new project Bridesmen, is an outlet for Chen to convey the artistic side of himself, unrelated to other people. With a running theme of expressing individual freedom and responsibility, the singer narrates the emotions of loneliness and the effect it can have on people. Chen reveals, “We hurt when we don’t understand each other and we hurt when we are unwilling to change. The best thing we can do is be ourselves within the context of what we were given”. As a gay Asian second generation immigrant, he grew up feeling isolated, constantly hiding behind masks to protect himself. In Bridesmen, Chen aspires to uncover these masks in an effort to live a boundless and truthful life. “I want people to know that as I have grown and matured as an artist and a human being, I’ve come to realize that my specific experiences of being gay and Asian are not particular to me. My life story reverberates far beyond my specificities, and anyone from any race or sexuality can empathize with the need to belong and be understood”, expresses Chen.

Chen has found success performing/supporting with artists such as Katy Perry, Kesha, Sara Bareilles, Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson, as well as touring with Portugal the Man and Ben Folds. His work with Postmodern Jukebox has reached over 8.6 million views on YouTube, garnering attention from across the globe.

Paulina Vo is an indie, R&B, pop/soul, singer, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn. Born in New Orleans to Vietnamese American immigrant parents, her family moved from state-to-state, spending most years in Orlando, Phoenix, and now Brooklyn. Paulina’s bi-cultural and bi-coastal upbringing have molded her sound into a cross-genre blend of harmonies, delayed guitars, and occasional 808’s. Currently, Paulina is writing, producing, and releasing collaborations and personal projects, as well as composing music for indie film and TV. She also plays at venues like Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, and the Delancey in New York City.

In 2015, she shared discography with hip hop legend Talib Kweli as part of Colours of the Culture, on her work with the producer, Thanks Joey.

Her new single “Shades Down” is set to release on January 24th on all major platforms. Vo quotes, “At points in my life, I let toxic people get close to me. I knew it was because I wanted to always look for the good in people, and found it difficult to listen to my red flags. But I finally got through to myself and decided I had to start listening. Stay tuned for more of Paulina Vo in 2020!

Blaise is back with his latest offering ‘Get Up’, a contagious rework of the Byron Stingily 90’s classic ‘Get Up (everybody)’ with fresh vocals from Stormzy collaborator Teni.

STREAM/PURCHASE: BLAISE – GET UP

Following on from his previous single ‘Good Body’ which was Blaise’s biggest release to date, with support from DJ Target, Charlsey, Rickie & Melvyn, it went top 10 in the music week club charts and featured in the Love Island TV finale.

Speaking on the ‘Get Up’, Blaise says “The original is one of my favourite house tracks ever, so giving it a rework was a no brainer. It’s different from the original with a new female vocal from Teni, who’s amazing. I’ve gone down a more soulful route with it. It’s a track that’s really genderless, it works for a female or male voice and it’s just about coming together, whoever you are and having fun – a track for our times”.

Off the back of his recent success, Blaise has spent the past year touring the word with Ministry Of Sound and is now working on an album with a heap of collaborations – so watch this space!

Born in the Philippines, raised in New York and currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Raquel Lily is an independent singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist and online personality. She streams music performance and a variety of content, including live vlogging (IRL Streaming), Just Chatting, Social Eating, gaming and cooking on Twitch. Graduating from UC Davis with a degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, Raquel left the medical field and dove head first into her creative pursuit in music and began online streaming in 2017.

Her upcoming debut, full-length concept album, I’m Leaving, features eight songs, narrating a coming of age story about someone going through their 20’s. Raquel confides, “Everyone’s been broken from something. You smoke some weed, you fall in love, they turn out to be a fuckboy, you’re with someone shitty, you break up, you ghost them, you still love them, you resign, you meet someone new and there’s hope again.” Title track “I’m Leaving” is an honest and relatable track for anyone who’s ever walked away from a toxic situation. Exuding a chilled, somber atmosphere while maintaining an upbeat rhythm, “I’m Leaving” emits a heavy sense of nostalgia. The single oozes with emotion, showcasing Raquel Lily’s impressive vocal abilities; with a dose of Latin percussion, the soulful groove-fueled release comes alive.

Raquel confesses how her songwriting is a cathartic, emotional purge. With the simple objective to guide listeners through an impassioned ride, her songs are driven by genuine experiences from an introspective and honest place. Inspired by the likes of Whitney Houston and old school R&B, Raquel wanted to capture a similar essence of synth-heavy, soul soaked music. Her love for old soul groups and classics, including Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, also shines brightly throughout her music.

Grammy-nominated Seth Glier is a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi instrumentalist. NPR describes his voice as “otherworldly” while praising him as “an engaging performer and storyteller.” His critically acclaimed, emotionally dense catalog of work often draws upon traditional roots music, experimental instrumentation, and moody atmospheres that result in soulfully intelligent stories that can alternatively fight the power or break your heart.

With five albums, five Independent Music Awards, and even a U.S. State Department sponsored international tour under his belt, Glier has also played with a diverse list of artists such as Ani DiFranco, Martin Sexton, James Taylor, Ronnie Spector, and Marc Cohn. He’s currently on tour and is debuting new music, including his two latest songs “If It Wasn’t For You” and “Stages”, both releasing in 2020. Inspired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, “If It Wasn’t For You” echoes the young activist’s own concepts about the transformative power of turning one’s trauma into gratitude and awareness. “Stages” captures the magic and secret joy that’s shared when close relationships evolve using the universal art of ritual. Both singles will be available on exclusive, collectible 7″ vinyl in a very limited run, offered only at his live shows. Glier plans to put out more music throughout the year while continuing to connect with audiences using his eclectic, often humorous, and always insightful artistry.

I produced the song as I wrote it, and it was important to me to hold onto its initial spark, as I built it out and mixed it myself later.

With the video for the track, I strove to tap into that same feeling I had as I was writing it, the longing and desire to connect with others, and the pain at feeling unable to do so.

I juxtaposed scenes shot in downtown LA by Eric Bilitch, with footage that I shot in my childhood bedroom back in Toronto. I edited these two worlds together – my past home in TO and my present home of LA.

With the narrative, I wanted to capture that feeling that we’re never enough in the eyes of others, that there’s something inherently wrong with who we are.

I did this through the eyes of a young girl (played by Charlotte Lindsay Marron) who struggles to look like the Instagram celebrities, even as it leaves her feeling deeply unhappy.

“Looking For Another” is tongue-in-cheek because although I felt like I was the only one, in writing the song I acknowledged the universality of feeling alone.

“Lovebird” is a song about how every single choice we make has consequences for those around us. How something so pure as love can become a beast beyond our own control.

JULIUS WILDER

Growing up between the East and West coasts, American singer-songwriter and actor Dante Palminteri matured his musical styling at an early age, drawing inspiration from John Mayer’s poetic mastery of the human psyche and Ed Sheeran’s genre-defying melodies. His lyrics narrate complex compilations about unrequited love, soul mates lost and found, and the growing pains of adulthood. Struck by the lyrical prowess of Americana muses Jason Isbell and The Tallest Man On Earth, Palminteri explores his own roots, weaving personal narratives on the intricacies of falling in love with whimsical acoustic melodies.

An early sufferer of anxiety and dyslexia, Palminteri found solace in the last place one would expect: written word. Dreaming up lyrics on teen heartbreak and defying the status quo, he set his sights on a long-term career in songwriting, eventually strumming his way into Berklee College of Music. He confides, “Growing up I couldn’t relate to using words in an academic setting, but when I discovered how to manipulate them to write my music they became a superpower. I want my music to speak to others and give them a soundtrack to their own lives”.

Following the release of the floaty, synth-pop record, “Miles Apart” – a heartfelt reflection on the regret and longing felt after an abrupt breakup, Palminteri is unveiling a handful of new singles, one by one. Simultaneously toeing between stories of love lost and won, Palminteri reflects on his own vulnerability, recounting real-life experiences facing rejection and loneliness, alongside feelings of heartfelt passion and intimacy. A common theme throughout the new music is change. The songwriter reveals, “Beginning last Summer, I went back to the drawing board to rebrand my music and artist image. I needed the time to get everyone’s preconceptions and rules out of my head with the goal of honing in on what it is I want to be creating. For the first time in a long while, I am making music that I am truly passionate about and I am excited to continue on this path of self-discovery”. Now, having found his own voice, Palminteri is defining who he is and baring it all, he continues, “Originality and being true to yourself is essential when making art in any form”.

‘Far From Me’ showcases simple guitar melodies, velvety vocals illustrating his impressive range and yearning lyrics which tug at your heart strings. The musician reveals, “Writing for me is like therapy, all of my emotions and experiences get baked into my music. All of these songs are about very different points in my life. All of these songs are a narration of what was happening to me at the time. Without giving anything away – some are inspirational, some are depressing, and everything in-between”.  ‘I Don’t Even Need You’ highlights Palminteri’s use of fun infectious melodies, upbeat rhythms and quirky lyrics which burst with personality.

Palminteri has bared it all on stages across the Tri-State area, from Feinstein’s 54Below and Arlene’s Grocery, to Rockwood Music Hall and Bethlehem Musikfest.

2020 is shaping up to be a big year for the stadium-bound atmosphere indie-pop quartet Larkins. With a huge and ambitious UK tour on the horizon as well as their debut North American run, Larkins are proving to be one of the great hopes for the year ahead.

Now Larkins take their next leap forward by sharing the new single ‘Hit and Run’. Already a fan favourite having independently released an early version of it, the song is also a highlight of their live shows. Now possessing a swaggering new confidence, ‘Hit and Run’ is a bigger, global-facing prospect. Its immediately insistent vocal hook captures your attention, their synths and guitars duel is punchier than ever, and the thunderous groove amplifies its undeniable energy.

This new version was produced by Mark Crew and Dan Priddy (Bastille’s ‘Pompeii’, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man), with additional production from regular Larkins collaboration Chris Zane (Friendly Fires, Jack Antonoff). It was mixed by the multiple Grammy winner Andrew Dawson, best known for his influential contributions to Kanye West’s discography.

Larkins’ frontman Josh Noble commented, “I remember hearing someone say that you have to approach older songs as the band you are now, not as the band you were when you wrote them. So to release a reworked version of ‘Hit & Run’ feels so good.”

Hit and Run’ features on the band’s new EP of the same title. It stands alongside their three recent tracks: the explosive anthem ‘Flood’; the spectral, Bon Iver-influenced ‘Make You Better’; and the unpredictable ‘Pieces’, which soars skyward from intimate acoustic guitars into a giant wall-of-sound. Collectively the songs span the eclectic sonic range and emotional resonance that are vital elements of the Larkins sound.

Noble added, “This EP is something that we wanted to do forever. It’s our first proper collection of songs and I’ve never felt so proud to listen to our music. Hopefully this is a real introduction to what we might be capable of a band, from the songwriting to the creative concepts that have come with each song. The artwork and lyrics videos have been killer to work on, and I think aesthetically we’re the strongest we’ve ever been. We want people to know that we’re not coming to light up your playlist, but to be a band that can write and produce music that can stand the test of time, and to compete with the likes of Foals, Haim and The 1975.

Always thinking big, that ambitious outlook has been a core part of Larkins’ rise to date. Josh Noble and Dom Want (guitar/synths) first worked on music together in school, cementing the band’s line-up with the conservatoire-trained duo Henry Beach (bass) and Joe Gaskell (drums).

The Manchester band have earned tastemaker support from Jack Saunders at Radio 1 and Zane Lowe at Beats 1, along with plays at BBC Introducing and Radio X. Meanwhile, NME featured them in their list of the essential new artists of 2020, where they were recommended for fans of Blossoms, Chvrches and Imagine Dragons. They’re making inroads in the States too, with airplay from KROQAaron Axelsen at the New ALT and Jeff Regan at Alt Nation.

Larkins promise to make their April headline tour an event by plotting an arena-sized show for relatively intimate venues. It includes a homecoming gig at Manchester’s O2 Academy 1, where they’ll become the first band to sell-out the venue before releasing their debut album in fifty years. They’ve previously filled the city’s Albert Hall venue, a show that was captured in an accompanying live document.
