Netflix is set to add a new comedy to its lineup with the upcoming film One Attempt Remaining, a project that combines humor, cryptocurrency intrigue, and a talented ensemble cast. The streaming giant has officially welcomed three notable actors to the cast, all set to star alongside Jennifer Garner, in a film produced by Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy.
Per Deadline, the cast includes John Cena (Peacemaker), Kate McKinnon (Barbie), and Aimee Carrero (Your Friends and Neighbors). These stars will join Garner, who is starring in her latest collaboration with Netflix. This marks the third time Garner and Levy will team up, following their work together on The Adam Project (2022) and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
The film’s premise promises a comedic twist on the world of cryptocurrency. According to an initial synopsis, One Attempt Remaining follows an ex-couple who, years after a bitter divorce, discover that a cryptocurrency they won during a wild night on a cruise is now worth millions. The catch? They’ve forgotten the password. With only three days before the account expires, they must retrace their steps from that night — not only to unlock their potential fortune but also to rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.
Directed by Kay Cannon, known for her sharp comedy and writing talent, the screenplay was co-written by Cannon, Joe Boothe, and Alexa Alemanni. Levy and Dan Levine will produce the film through 21 Laps, alongside Nicole King from Linden Productions and Jennifer Garner herself. The project also boasts an impressive executive production team, including Cannon, Becca Edelman and Deanna Barillari of 21 Laps, and Bergen Swanson.
In addition to his role in this upcoming Netflix comedy, John Cena remains busy with a slate of high-profile projects. He is attached to Coyote vs. Acme, a movie from Warner Bros. and Warner Animation Group; Matchbox: The Movie from Mattel Studios; and the comedy Little Brother. Kate McKinnon, meanwhile, continues to diversify her portfolio, with upcoming roles in Neon’s The Wrong Girls, Andrew Stanton’s sci-fi film In the Blink of an Eye, and Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.
As One Attempt Remaining moves forward, it promises a blend of humor, heart, and a dash of crypto chaos — a perfect recipe for a Netflix hit, with a star-studded cast and a talented creative team behind it. Fans of comedy and cryptocurrency alike will be eager to see how this quirky story unfolds on screen.
