Singer-songwriter Cody Simpson has unveiled two fresh singles, “Baby Blue” and “When It Comes to Loving You,” released through BMG. These upbeat tracks are a vibrant celebration of joy, reflecting Cody’s excitement to be back in the studio after a lengthy hiatus. Co-written by Cody and produced by Harrison Borts, the songs have already generated significant buzz on social media since he began teasing them. This release signals just the start of what promises to be an exciting year for the artist.
The music video for “Baby Blue,” directed by Antony Muse, complements the song’s lively spirit. It depicts Cody walking across Los Angeles on foot, performing and dancing along the way, while engaging with strangers. As the song concludes, Cody enters a dark building, and the screen fades to black. The upcoming “When It Comes to Loving You” music video will serve as a sequel to “Baby Blue,” together boldly reaffirming Simpson’s return to music.
Reflecting on his artistic comeback, Cody shared, “In my return to music, I had been experimenting in the studio for almost a year when one day I came in extremely open-hearted and open-minded, sensing something vibrant and new wanted to come through. I intended to create something that felt like the coming of spring, like a pure expression of joy whilst sounding cool enough to throw on driving down the highway with your mates. I grabbed a guitar next to my friend and producer Harrison Borts on synths, and this is where the sound that birthed Baby Blue and When It Comes to Loving You was born. I hope everybody enjoys listening to them as much as I enjoyed making them. I’ve been buzzing ever since!”
Cody Simpson’s journey is as diverse as his talents. In 2020, he made headlines worldwide for stepping away from the entertainment industry to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an elite competitive swimmer. After returning to Australia to focus on the sport, he earned a spot on the Australian National Team in 2022 and competed in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, reaching the final of the 100m butterfly and earning Gold and Silver medals in the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays. He also claimed multiple Australian Short Course Titles and a Silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the 2023 World Cup in Athens. After narrowly missing qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Cody announced his retirement from competitive swimming and his return to music.
A pop icon in his own right, Cody began his music career at just 13, when his bedroom covers went viral on YouTube. Almost overnight, he became an international sensation, signing with Atlantic Records on his 13th birthday. He toured with Justin Bieber, and his sophomore album Surfer’s Paradise cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. His collaboration with Bieber, “Home to Mama,” reached number one on the Billboard Social 50 and Trending 140 charts. A versatile performer, Cody made his Broadway debut in 2018 as the male lead in Anastasia, and most recently starred as Sky Masterson in Opera Australia’s 2025 production of Guys and Dolls.
