INsiders Guide: BRONTËS, Martin Carr, Truman, Freycus, Headhuncho Amir, AMERICAN VANITY…

Brontës release their catchy new single on 13 February 2026 just in time for Valentine’s Day. “Wouldn’t Be Me” is a punchy take on disliking someone’s boyfriend, knowing their standards should be higher. This song is a playful request to dump your him and move on. The perfect track for the anti-Valentine’s crowd.

Wouldn’t Be Me” is the third new digital single from Brontës’ upcoming debut album, set for release in April via Last Night From Glasgow. First single “Cognitive Dissonance” was released on 22 August, a sunny indie-rock hit full of catchy guitar licks and classic pop lyricism exploring feelings of jealousy and anger. Second single San Francisco” is a change of pace, showcasing the quartet’s versatility. It digs deep and slows down, contemplating the tragedy of right person, wrong time.

Brontës are Eva on vocals/guitar, Amelia on drums/vocals, Erin on guitar/vocals and Katie on bass/vocals. With a brand new look, attitude and sound Brontës have reinvented themselves as a 4-piece rock/pop band influenced by generations of classic pop music such as Sabrina Carpenter, Blondie and The Ronettes.

The Glasgow band have built up a steady buzz on the live circuit since emerging in 2021, from playing a sold-out headline gig at the iconic King Tuts to festival slots across the country. Fast forward to 2025 and Brontës have recently finished recording their highly anticipated debut album at Ayrshire’s Beetroot Studio with Stuart MacLeod. Assured in their polished sound, the group are looking forward to branching out in this next chapter as one of Glasgow’s most promising young indie bands. The self-titled album is set for release on 21 April 2026 on three shades of vinyl, CD and digital formats.

Martin Carr – visionary songwriter, guitarist, filmmaker, graphic artist, and creative force behind The Boo Radleys and bravecaptain – has shared his unconventional new single, “Connie Converse Is Playing At My House,” available today exclusively via the artist’s own Sonny Boy Records. A self-directed and animated official music video premieres today at YouTube. Recorded at Carr’s home studio in Cardiff, Wales, “Connie Converse Is Playing At My House” – which includes an interpolation of the eponymous cult songstress’s “Connie Checks the Mic” – marks the first release from What Future, an all-new solo album of distracted beats and messy electronics arriving later this year.

“A couple of years ago, I listened to a true crime podcast about a little-known singer-songwriter who had home-recorded her own wildly original music in the late 1950s and had then gone missing in the 1970s,” says Martin Carr. “That was the first time I had heard the name Connie Converse and within a week I had listened to her songs a thousand times. I really connected to her personal and self-effacing lyrics, there is a yearning in her songs that I recognise in my own. I had to find out everything I could about her, which led me to Howard Fishman’s excellent book, To Anyone Who Ever Asks: The Life, Music, and Mystery of Connie Converse. My obsession peaked when I had a dream that she was playing in my kitchen, making beautiful and strange noises on a huge old Moog synth.”

Shadowy, atmospheric production lays the perfect foundation for rising talent Truman’s distinctive East London flow and politically charged lyricism. He tells stories of working-class men grappling with identity, and the darkness those struggles can lead to. Over droning synths that underscore a striking, catchy chorus, Truman chants: “Beer Knights, when you’ve run out of lies to cover the holes in your genes, and your DNA can’t connect the dots and the seams.”

Truman (real name Charley Palmer Rothwell) is also known for his acclaimed work as an actor and is currently collaborating with directors Edgar Wright and Myriam Raja. Born in Homerton, London, Rothwell brings the same emotional depth and intensity from his acting to his music. Truman’s songs are brave and self-exposing, ruthlessly drawing upon trauma and uncomfortable truths, framed within the context of his working-class upbringing and the wider society that shaped him.

Progressive metal project Freycus has released its heavy, spiraling anthem, “Justice Miscarried,” featuring vocalist Pranati “Peekay” Khanna. The song is deeply transformative, brimming with crashing cymbals, thunderous guitar riffs, and unflinching lyrical urgency. This is the latest release from their upcoming album Oleander, set to drop later this year. “Justice Miscarried” Ft. Peekay is now available to stream and download on platforms worldwide, and the music video is now available to watch on YouTube.

Opening with tense, metallic strings, “Justic Miscarried” quickly erupts into a relentless sonic onslaught as Peekay delivers a commanding vocal performance, shifting fluidly between ferocious guttural screams and stark melodic passages, reminiscent of Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox. Her presence adds a visceral new dimension to the band’s sound, with cutting lines like “I see weak men rise to the occasion” punctuating the song’s intensity.  Written and recorded by Freycus, “Justice Miscarried” confronts the quiet normalization of injustice in both global and personal contexts. The track grapples with systems that perpetuate harm, from wars fueled by corporatized agendas and misinformation to everyday acts of displacement, exploitation, and erasure. Heavy snare snaps and crashing cymbals from Donovan Wetterstein on drums drive the track forward, washing the recording in a relentless flow that complements the growling guitars from Zareh Minassian and weighty bass lines from Urian Medina. In a world where children die in wars fueled by neoliberal ideologies, misinformation campaigns, and corporatized agendas, individual stories reveal harrowing truths. The landlord evicting a tenant or the immigrant suddenly facing exile from their home country are just two of many common and tragic realities where justice is continually denied. Discussing the track, members of Freycus explained, “It often feels like we’re living inside a nightmare, softened only by distraction, nights out, drinks, anything to make the weight feel lighter. We exist in survival mode. But rather than sit quietly and accept it, we choose to scream, to resist, to fight back… This is where ‘Justice Miscarried’ was born.” The track was mixed and mastered by Keshav Dhar.

Following the success of his October mixtape, 50 Year Run, rising Dallas powerhouse HeadHuncho Amir is back to claim his territory with the release of his brand-new single, “SET,” available everywhere now.

The anticipation for “SET” reached an all time high last week when Amir shared a snippet of the track on social media. The teaser exploded instantly, garnering over 1 million views in just days as fans clamored for the full version. The track marks the first offering from a fresh collection of music, signaling that Amir is not taking his foot off the gas after a year that saw him tour with EST Gee and named Billboard’s Rookie of the Month [October 2025].

“SET” captures the unrelenting energy and “New Dallas” movement that Amir has championed throughout his rise. It follows a string of hits including “You The Biggest,” “Still Ain Nun Bigger,” and the unity-focused anthem “New Dallus.” While 50 Year Run was about building a lasting legacy, “SET” represents the manifestation of that grind—showcasing an artist who is fully locked in and ready for the global stage.

With his music videos for tracks like “You The Biggest” hitting the million-view mark within a month of release, HeadHuncho Amir continues to prove why he is the definitive voice of the modern Dallas rap scene.

rising PA rockers American Vanity release the accompanying music video for their latest single “Lifeline,” out everywhere now.

Released on January 23rd, “Lifeline” is a vulnerable track that captures the intensity of yearning for connection, clinging to someone emotionally like a lifeline even as the relationship itself feels uncertain. That raw emotion is heightened by a catchy, nostalgia-tinged pop-punk melody, driven by hook-laden guitar lines and larger-than-life drums. The accompanying music video matches the song’s urgency with a grungy, high-energy visual, placing dual vocalists Luke Hoffman and Virginia Franks in a heart-pounding race against the clock as captives fighting to break free.

“‘Lifeline’ examines emotional dependence in a culture where validation feels constant but fragile,” shares the band. “The song captures the tension between wanting connection and recognizing when that connection starts to define you.”

Son of Trinidad and to legendary Caribbean producer, Kenny Phillips, Kasey Phillips spent his formative years in the studio, developing his craft early, producing his first track at just ten years old.

Kasey quickly built a name for himself in his home country of Trinidad, becoming an integral part of the music community there, before landing an internship in Los Angeles, California that would expand his musical reach and ultimate vision. In Los Angeles, the possibilities for realizing his passion to bring soca and Caribbean music to the world were clarified, and he was able to return home to launch and build his company, Precision Productions, into the most sought after production company in the nation. As the most prominent music producer in Trinidad, Phillips set his sights on penetrating the U.S. market, and it wouldn’t be long before his work as a producer on Ciara and Chris Brown’s latest single “How We Roll” was sailing up the charts and reaching virality on social platforms. His portfolio includes work with diamond-selling artist Shaggy, R&B sensation Carl Thomas, Australian star vocalist Jessica Mauboy, alongside those who rule the Caribbean music charts, including Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Kevin Lyttle, Rupee, and Kes the Band. Most recently, Kasey worked on BLXCKIE’s debut EP, See You Soon, for Def Jam Records, handling all mixing, mastering, and Atmos elements of the project.

His unparalleled work ethic, impactful portfolio of work, and infinite potential for further excellence led to his signing with Sony Music Publishing, the world’s number one music publisher.Honored across the music industry for his talent, Phillips has received the Soul Train Music Award for Best International Performance, the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and serves his music community at large as the Chairman of the Grammy Screening Committee for Global Music. Kasey is currently based in Los Angeles where he continues to lead Precision Productions into a bright future of global dominance.

The “Rock n’ Roll St. Brigid” Returns to School the Armchair Experts.  Áine Duffy is a singer-songwriter, electric guitar playing belter who builds. After making headlines in The Irish TimesSelf Build mag, RTE news and on the BBC for constructing her own mortgage-free passive home for just €12,500, she took her innovation to the road. She converted a vintage horsebox into the viral Duffbox mobile stage, followed by the custom-engineered, sustainable Duffbox 2.0. Now, the independent innovator is back with her new single: “KNOW IT ALL.”

‘I put these stories together into a song so people could have a bop while laughing at the’know-it-all’ epidemic that’s driving us all bonkers. It’s basically free therapy, because it’s hard to tell someone to whisht up to their face without being called a diva or offending them!’

Hopefully, it encourages them to take it handy—you don’t always have to prove you’re the smartest person in the room.’ Áine Duffy

Bitingly funny and unapologetically rocky, the track is a high-voltage reality check for the “couch foremen” and YouTube “engineers” who think they’ve mastered the trade because they’ve binge-watched Grand Designs. With a vocal that can tear down a room and the technical mind to build it back better, Áine Duffy isn’t just playing the game; she’s redesigning the stadium.

In August 2025, in protest about the lack of diversity in Irish music, Duffy organised an all-woman line up for a concert in Cork, and she continues to champion Irish independent artists with this year’s Don’t Touch My Knob tour.

Zak Coghlan is a songwriter and producer from the Liberties in Dublin, now based in London, making his solo debut after fronting rising Irish alt-rock band Sunburn. Known for his emotionally honest lyricism and soaring vocal delivery, Zak’s music captures the intensity of youth, heartbreak, and personal growth rooted in the storytelling traditions of his Irish upbringing, but with a sharp alt-rock edge. His debut single, ‘Composure’, is a raw, atmospheric anthem that marks the beginning of a bold new chapter introducing
his voice to a broader audience with both tenderness and power.

Louisiana band Cashier are excited to share “Part From Me,” the latest preview of their debut EP, The Weight, available March 13, 2026, via Julia’s War Recordings. Urgent guitars unfurl as bandleader Kylie Gaspard’s powerful vocals break through walls of sound. Capturing the back and forth of a strained relationship, the four-piece approach faulty connections with hard-edged but lush riffs. An official music video for the track also premieres today, featuring the band drenched in psychedelic graphics as they tear through the new single and go through their daily lives.

“I had a lot of fun writing this song,” Kylie says. “Musically, it’s a love letter to singing, and a celebration of rock guitar. I was trying to find something playful for the verses, and I created this melody that goes back and forth with the guitars. Lyrically, the song seeks connection, exploring the distance between two people; the push and pull of coming back around to each other, but the connection never quite making it – like when two magnets repel – and the invitation to be/not be a part of another person’s life.”
