Comedian and producer Seth Rogen is bringing back a beloved ’80s television series that captured the hearts of dog lovers everywhere. The reboot will be developed by Rogen and his longtime friend Evan Goldberg’s production company, aiming to introduce the classic story to a new generation.
The original series, The Littlest Hobo, aired in Canada from 1979 to 1985 on CTV and became a cultural phenomenon. It followed a stray German Shepherd who, ownerless but compassionate, wandered from town to town helping people in need. The show was inspired by a 1960s American TV series, which itself was based on a 1958 film.
Rogen’s reimagined version will be a live-action drama that stays true to the spirit of the original, while offering fresh storytelling. Produced by Lionsgate Canada alongside Point Grey, Rogen and Goldberg’s production company, the project also has Rose Oushalkas and Christopher Dew serving as producers. Rogen expressed his enthusiasm for the reboot, saying, “The Littlest Hobo was a foundational show of our childhood.” He added, “We’re excited to bring it back for a new generation with our partners at Crave. And though the hobo may be small, we promise big adventures. Just like the original, the dog will stay little, but the stories will be big.”
Rogen and Goldberg, childhood friends, have a storied history of collaboration, including hits like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and The Boys. Their recent work includes leading the successful reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise with the animated film Mutant Mayhem in 2023, which received critical acclaim and performed well at the box office, earning over $180 million worldwide.
As of now, there is no confirmed release date for The Littlest Hobo reboot. Fans will have to stay tuned for further updates on this nostalgic yet fresh take on a classic series.
