INsiders Guide: Beth Nielsen Chapman, NvM, LESS KILLJOY, Blair Lee, Ché Aimee Dorval, TFD, Ceara Cavalieri, ACTION/ADVENTURE, Emotional Oranges, Band For Sale…

Born out of a day’s writing with Kimmie Rhodes and Mindy Smith, ‘Walk You To Heaven’ is a beautiful and comforting goodbye to a loved one. It serves as the closing track on the upcoming album and showcases Beth’s talent of conveying difficult emotions in a beautiful melody. ‘We were talking about the depth and beauty of the songs written by John Prine and his body of work and how exquisitely simple he could be while also bringing us to such a rich place with his lyrics,’ says Beth. ‘He had just passed not long before the day we were writing this song and we sent up an invitation to Heaven for him to feel free to send down any hints on how to write it.’
As for ‘The Universe’, another song written with Kimmie Rhodes, Beth describes it as ‘“Jumpin Jack Flash” meets Tom Petty on “The Last Train to Clarksville”’. This blistering blues rock track hurtles along as it takes a look at our world and beyond. The chaotic musicality of it matches with the scale of its themes: ‘It was just such a big idea and it covered so much territory (thus the title). It’s about what we’ve done to the earth and the way that the earth so brilliantly operates from the center of its own deep wisdom and how its creatures (including us) are “trapped in the forces and synchronistic consequences of the universe.”’ – Beth
Produced by the celebrated 5-time Grammy Award winner Ray Kennedy (who’s worked with everyone from Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, and Shania Twain, to John Mellencamp and Taylor Swift) ‘Walk You To Heaven / The Universe’ is the third release from ‘CrazyTown’ following previous singles ‘With Time’ and ‘Hey Girl (We Can Deal With It)’. The new album, out this September combines elements of classic rock, blues and pop to great effect. It’s a deeply personal collection, exploring themes of navigating the ups and downs of life and love, but, as with all Beth’s albums – still with plenty of light at the end of the tunnel.
“It’s about navigating chaos” says Beth. “How, even despite everything being crazy, on some level one can trust that things are in divine order and that we will be OK. There’s a lot of groove and joy and fun on this album, along with a couple of deep dive ballads.”

Beth Nielsen Chapman is an artist with many accolades to her name: mega-hit ‘This Kiss’, sung by Faith Hill, was ASCAP’s 1999 Song of The Year, garnered a Grammy nomination and Nashville NAMMY’s 1999 Songwriter of the Year. Beth also received a special award by The Alabama Music Hall of Fame and was the recipient of The Distinguished Artist Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts in 2009 and in October of 2016, Beth was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, one she considers to be the highest honour she’s ever received.  In 2019 Beth was invited to become an Ambassador for the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation.

Rapid-rising UK rapper NvM returns with his explosive drill heater “Break It Down” – alongside a rigorous official music video set to release Thursday 6th October.

Breaking new grounds across the Midlands with crystal-clear raps and creative vision, the rising lyricist shines on his latest drill cut. Boasting trademark woozy basslines and catchy percussive rhythms, the sturdy instrumental encapsulates NvM’s high-octane bars and conversational patter in effortless fashion.

Recorded at Monarchy Music (wewantwraiths), it’s apparent in “Break It Down” that the young emcee absorbed that creative environment as he delivers assertive bars manifesting the unflinching tales of street life and the determination that he’s gained from it.

Growing up in a tough environment, NvM was no stranger to the chaotic lifestyle of street culture – experiencing the ups and downs first-hand, NvM gradually sought refuge in music and the creative arts. A wave of creativity soon followed with a string

of addictive freestyles that marked NvM as a one to watch, while continuing to explore his sonic palette through influences of drill, grime and UK rap.

Emerging as a definitive breakout name from the ever-growing Midlands rap scene, NvM is poised for a wider UK crossover as he rapidly becomes a significant new voice of the streets.

As an artist LESS KILLJOY really only has one wish “I hope my music will speak for itself because for real, that’s the only way I know how to express myself and interact with humans and there’s a lot I want to say”.

Her latest track “My Parade” is an energetic alt-pop track featuring quirky guitars and fuzzy 808 bass and drums that will rattle everything every part of your car loose. “My Parade” is the second offering from her forthcoming debut EP titled Pink Grenade. LESS KILLJOY has a sound all her own calling it “alt-hop, lo-fi, shoegaze indie punk. Who needs a genre right?” Inspired by a search for happiness for herself and everyone around her, “My Parade” shines with a bratty and boisterous vocal energy, dreamy synthesizers, lo fi guitar loops and in your face drums. “Maybe one day Kenny Beats will hear my shit”. That said, you can expect an overload of honesty from LESS KILLJOY. She talks about feeling underestimated and judged by the people around her and throwing it back in their faces. Happy people don’t bring you down, they encourage you, they support you…As she sings in the hook of “My Parade” – it’s the miserable that always “RAIN ON YOUR PARADE”.
Through sharing her experience, LESS KILLJOY hopes to build a community of people who feel safe around one another, despite their race, gender, sexuality, age, or socioeconomic status, her raw honesty and true passion for inclusivity makes her one to watch. Having received humbling praise from the likes of Earmilk, Record of the Day and Ones to Watch, you can expect a lot more from this exciting new Toronto talent.

Canadian singer-songwriter Blair Lee releases “Peachy World” and announces her debut EP The Puppy Game – set to arrive on December 2. A tale of the world you create in your head versus reality, this new single is a means of trying to convince yourself everything feels “peachy” even when feeling cast aside. Produced by close collaborator, ModMaxx (Drake, Roy Woods, Tinashe) this is the second taste of Blair’s upcoming debut project – Listen.

On today’s release, Blair said, “I don’t like to say too much about songs because I like listeners to be able to interpret them in a way that has meaning for them.” She continues, “Truthfully, I think I sometimes write them without deciding what they’re ‘about.’ I like to listen to the words after and come up with my own interpretations, which often change. I am inspired by lyrics by The National and Imogen Heap – quite personal and vulnerable, but not necessarily obvious or literal in their meaning.”

“Peachy World” comes with an official video directed by Benjamin Del Vasto that feels like the dream montage straight out of a coming-of-age film. Viewers see Blair move through picturesque settings of the beach, a carnival and outside the Bowlerama, feeling the presence of a veiled love from her past always nearby but not close enough to grasp onto

Vancouver musician Ché Aimee Dorval shares Falling Under’ and announces that her new album The Crowned will be out on January 19th, 2023 via Icons Creating Evil Art, except for Canada, where it will be released independently.

‘Falling Under’ follows the release of ‘Blood Red Son’ and is the 2nd single from Ché’s forthcoming album. The track is about the sadness of watching someone you love lose themselves to addiction, but Ché wanted to convey a more positive message with the video.

“The song ‘Falling Under’ is about the pain and heartbreak of watching someone you love destroy themselves,” says Ché. “Ultimately, it’s about losing a friend to addiction. But instead of focusing on pain in the video, I wanted to shine a light on love, support, and connection. On the people who keep you afloat when you feel like you are drowning. And the importance of saving and taking care of yourself, so that in turn you can help take care of those that need you.”

There is a new TOTAL FUCKING DARKNESS song called “Him.”

It’s a pronoun, inferring threat.

We wrote this tune in less time than it takes to listen to it.

How do I hide that I still love you? Headed blind into the light and you’re coming to, to live in the clouds with the cherubim, you can be an angel and I’ll be Him.

Wrap yourself in the fog and chill of the vibe zone with us.

Ceara Cavalieri is a 26 year old singer/songwriter from Southern California. Having graduated from UCLA with a degree in Psychology, Cavalieri has since dedicated herself to pursuing music full time. Her love for music stems from the age of three, where she found her voice and wouldn’t stop singing. In her teenage years she took to songwriting as a way of expressing her thoughts and feelings when her shyness prevented. With seven single releases under her belt thus far, Cavalieri is carving out her own distinct sound of incredibly infectious and candidly relatable pop rock music. Her latest single, “Damn” was placed on Spotify’s “Teen Beats” playlist and “Fresh Finds” playlist. Ceara also recently collaborated with DJ/Producer EQRIC on two dance singles which were placed on Spotify’s “Dance Brandneu” playlist. Her latest single “Liar Liar” is an empowering post-breakup song that you can scream in your car and help ease the pain of being cheated on.

Chicago, US – Action/Adventure shouldn’t be here. At least, that’s what the Chicago-based five-piece seems to think.

They’re wrong–very wrong–but that’s the overriding theme of their debut album.  That’s partly why they named their forthcoming record “Imposter Syndrome”–because when the band signed to Pure Noise Records, they couldn’t quite believe it.

“For us,” says lead vocalist Blake Evaristo, “having a debut on Pure Noise is insane.  Especially because, when “Barricades” blew up for us and we got all that TikTok clout, it happened during the pandemic, so we didn’t even play a show till nearly a year later. And I feel like, in that time, we were having Imposter Syndrome, hence the title.

Action/Adventure has today shared two offerings from this debut, “Levity” which is accompanied by the music video and streaming single “3818″.

A heads up that LA duo Emotional Oranges are continuing to move towards the release of their new project The Juice Vol III with the reveal of vibe packed new single, Petty.  A & V shine over smoky production, both bringing the unique sultry tones that have seen the shadowy duo rack up millions of streams, play sold out shows in the US, UK and Australia as well as develop a passionate fan base. Take a listen to the track below.

To those that know Dave Brandwein as the frontman of Turkuaz, the indie-Americana/folk-rock music of Band For Sale might seem like a radical change. But to the multi-instrumentalist and producer, the upcoming album, Sleeping Sun, Waking Moon, represents a return to his musical roots.

“This album is who I’ve always been deep down,” Brandwein explains. “I grew up on The Beatles, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, and the other classic sounds of the 60’s and 70’s… The truth is that Turkuaz was the departure.”

The last ten years have seen a flurry of change for Brandwein. He got married and got divorced. He got sober, drunk, and sober again. He oversaw the growth of Turkuaz, the nine-piece funk band he’d fronted since college, into an internationally touring powerhouse sharing the stage and collaborating with legends like The Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew. Finally, in the fall of 2021, he saw Turkuaz disband, halting upcoming tour dates and bringing the band’s future into question. It was at that point when he moved from Brooklyn, NY, to Los Angeles, California, seizing the opportunity to assess his past accomplishments and the uncertain future that lay ahead, a chance to clean out his closet and start fresh.

Music has taken Moonlight Jones to many corners of the globe and from coast to coast in the United States. A self-taught guitarist, he was fascinated with how easily music could open up whole worlds of creativity and inspiration. He promptly learned as much as he could from every musician he knew in his hometown of Tampa, Florida and set off on his musical journey.

Born to an Egyptian father and an American mother of Czech heritage, MoonLight Jones’ introduction into the world of music was wide ranging and has influenced his musical style ever since. Latin, Middle Eastern and World music was always playing in MoonLight Jones’ household, as was Blues, Bluegrass, Asian, and Folk music.

The sound of the flamenco guitar in particular inspired him to move to Spain and learn as much as he could about the style while living and studying in Barcelona and Granada. Trips to Puerto Rico, Cuba and Colombia further opened up his world to the rich musical cultures of those countries and many others.

His professional music career started in Los Angeles, CA. His first job in L.A. was working for famed graphic designer Kyle Cooper, in Malibu. Shortly after, Jeff decided to pursue sound engineering to round out his growing musical experience. Whilst working with many local bands he got an opportunity to tour with the 100 Monkeys, which was “Twilight” alum Jackson Rathbone’s band and headlined shows at The Whiskey-A-Go Go, The Mint, The House of Blues on Sunset and The Viper Room, to name a few. He also produced hip-hop for The Jugernox, with Scott “The Scientist” Coslett and Jerry “J-Strong” Armstrong for artists like James Jr, a Memphis rapper and also H-Town rapper, Rock.

Moonlight Jones’ love of film music eventually landed him a job with Heitor Pereira, famed film composer, who had a studio at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Studios in Santa Monica. Moonlight Jonesalso lived in Nashville, TN. where he plied his trade in Southern Rock band, Suthurn Swaggur, with the talented lead vocalist and lyricist, Joseph Dawson.

More recently, he moved back to Florida, this time to Miami, where he began working with local Haitian artists, Claude Cajuste of Gemini All-Stars fame, and rapper/singer Purple Gorilla. Together, they formed the group Echo N Dream and have played shows all over Miami.

In 2021, Moonlight Jones teamed up with International recording artist and producer Nino Valentino. Together they created a unique genre of music called “Cosmic Soul” which is a blend of Flamenco music, R&B and Rock. When asked why they chose the name “Cosmic Soul” Moonlight Jones responded, “Through our music we want to connect with our fans on a universal level, that’s what Cosmic Soul is all about. Connecting with each other using our music as the vehicle”. Moonlight Jones just released his debut single, “Hot Night”, written by Moonlight Jones and produced by Nino Valentino and recorded at Mambo Cat Studios owned by Grammy-winning Trumpet Player Dante Vargas. The song also features the amazing vocals of Karina Iglesias, a Miami native and finalist on “The Voice”. The track was then mixed by Grammy winning engineer Sean Moffitt and mastered by Grammy winning engineer Joe LaPorta.

Hailing from the barrier islands of South Carolina, Andrew Christopher Rutherford Royal has a deep connection with the land and embodies a non-traditionalist’s interpretation of the eastern South. He writes Southern Gothic cameos which he weaves into often dark, Indie Americana. After writing and curating the works for an album he records and mixes the music for Rutherford Royal (as well as other artists) in his remote cabin studio overlooking a hidden waterfall in southern Tennessee.

Indie pop singer MARIS released her first music video for her debut single, “Heavenly Bodies.” “Heavenly Bodies” is the first of several upcoming releases leading to her EP, expected early 2023, via Black House.

Heavenly Bodies” was co-directed by MARIS and Caro Knapp (Olivia Rodrigo, Fergie, Adobe X Netflix). What was originally a vision that MARIS had laid out on a PowerPoint presentation is now brought to life with the help of Caro.

MARIS says, “Making the music video for ‘Heavenly Bodies‘ was the manifestation of years’ worth of dreaming. From the time ‘Heavenly Bodies’ was just a demo, I had massive ideas for what the visual world could be. I’ve made a few different PowerPoints, then wrote out a rough shot list, which my co-director, Caro, ironed out and added her film expertise to.”

Bay-Area bred, LA-based R&B artist thuy (pronounced “twee”) delivers a glistening new EP, girls like me don’t cryaccompanied by a dreamy music video for the project’s title track. The 7-track record is an ode to love of all sorts, from self-love to relationships and what it means to experience all of its trials and tribulations.

Brimming with timeless story-telling, warm vocals, and fluttering melodies, the project feels like an important new chapter for the young artist as she sees herself transform from hometown hero to global icon.

“It’s okay to cry,” expresses thuy“Crying is not a sign of weakness; crying is when you are in tune with yourself, and you let it out and then go back to go back to your life. When I wrote this song, I was trying to tough it out during a really hard time in my life, and all I wanted to do was let it out. Once I did, I felt like a huge weight off my shoulder, and it showed me that I can have and show emotion but still be strong at the same time.”

The project is accompanied with stunning visuals for the titular track, “girls like me don’t cry”. In making the video, thuy wanted to highlight four strong women in entertainment whose careers require them to be at the forefront of the public eye. Although they may appear to have it all together, even the strongest women battle self-doubt and insecurities.

thuy shares, “It was important to showcase these women in their element in hopes that other people can see themselves in these women and hopefully find strength through that. Even the strongest people cry and it’s not a sign of weakness and that’s essentially what I’m trying to say through the song.”

By leveraging its iconic past and leaning into the future, Epiphone has set the stage for the next era of sound for present and future generations. Epiphone is proud to take the next step in its partnership with world-famous guitarist and guitar collector Joe Bonamassa and launch the Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 in Sixties Cherry. The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 is now available worldwide at authorized Epiphone dealers and on www.Epiphone.com.

“I used my Gibson 335 on my first solo album because I wanted to sound like Eric Clapton,” says Joe Bonamassa. “A 335 makes you sound different because it’s semi-hollow, but it also has a very unique, fat and warm sound that no other guitar has. I sold the guitar about three years later to finance a move from NYC to Los Angeles. For almost 17 years I searched for that guitar, but then I finally got it back and now I want to share it with you.”

“Joe has many guitars, but none have more personal significance than this ES-335,” says Mat Koehler, Sr. Director of Product Development at Gibson Brands. “We absolutely love the story and we’re honored to be able to help tell it with the release of this faithful recreation.”

This Halloween, LE CYGNE NOIR, is planning a special seasonal new EP release entitled: ‘Death & Consequences’ (out 28 October, via Anger Management Records).

Returning with a harrowing set of songs all about serial killers, the renegade electronic/prog artist is leading the way with the featured single: “Burn Bundy Burn”.

STREAM “BURN BUNDY BURN” ON ALL SERVICES HERE

Set at the frenzied speed of 165bpm, “Burn Bundy Burn” lurches out of the stereo like Squeeze having a stab at “Bat Out Of Hell” while dialling up the fear factor to 11. A track finds the infamous Ted Bundy taking the mic for a musical exposé of his crimes and eventual demise, it sets the scene for five tracks of rule-breaking rock to come from Le Cygne Noir.

Featured on theDeath & Consequences’ EP, his latest release was written in 2020 during the dark days of lockdown when just about the whole nation were having trouble facing their own demons, let alone those of others. Finding himself possessed by supernatural forces during that most perverse of periods, Le Cygne Noir was drawn into murky mindsets of some of the world’s most notorious serial killers. As he remembers:

“I was writing at the piano and kept feeling a tap on the back, I was initially scared to death, I could feel a strange dark force feeding me words which I wrote down’ and decided to embrace it and use it. It was all I had. Sometimes inspiration can come from a strange place, and this was quite intense to say the least.”

Newcomer Natsuma’s new single “Miss You” makes for an exciting first glance at the latest British prodigious talent to emerge from BRIT school. This single, like her forthcoming debut EPOops” out November 4th, soundtracks her raw fragility to songwriting. The entire EP was written and produced by Natsuma alone in her shed during the pandemic, fully embodying a true DIY artist with an ability to connect to a broad range of audiences with her unique sound that blends soul and indie-pop together exquisitely.

Speaking about “Miss You” its meaning, Natsuma said “It wasn’t initially written about anyone or anything. How it started out: I’d just got this gorgeous vinyl warp plugin and I played some piano chords through it. I love the nostalgic vibe it gives. I then added the electronic drums and the ‘feathery’ sub-bass). I was in a sentimental mood for some reason so I got my mic out and spontaneously recorded vox to sketch out some ideas. The first verse just flowed out and most of the lyrics surfaced from that first improvised vocal. This song came so easy to me even though at the time I’d never really experienced a proper breakup or heartbreak – (however this song would foretell a situation I was in a bit later which I find a little spooky) – manifestation through music.”

After a successful year of releases, Hertfordshire born and bred mustbejohn drops his hotly anticipated 6 track EP, ‘Romance in Great Britain’.

Heavily inspired by his surroundings mustbejohn is rapidly building upon the relatable, catchy and fresh sound that he has become known for. Merging genres throughout the six tracks, John’s musical influences act as a bed for his frank and raw song-writing as he tells stories of life in the city, parties, people he knows and of course romance.

Acting as the soundtrack to London’s make-ups and break-ups title track ‘Romance in Great Britain’ opens the EP with mustbejohn singing: “Romeo and Juliet in TN’s, hook up every now and then, but decided to be friends” as he paints a vivid picture of British street-life. Sporting influences from the liquid drum and bass and the underground scene, the second track on the EP “Days Feel Like Seconds” is the feel-good party vibe to drive you through any dull day. With a relentless backbeat pushing on the up-tempo track, mustbejohn’s signature blunt vocal delivery further serves his distinctly UK sound, all whilst developing a unique style by mixing in elements of wavy electronica. Continuing to seamlessly blend sliding electronic melodies with underground vibes, “New Gen” is yet another example of mustbejohn’s talent for combining genres to produce his own unique soundscape. Lead track ‘High Risk’ has all the elements for a staple mustbejohn song, bouncing beats, vibey synths and party based hook lines.

Painting the picture of a messy London night out, uplifting dance track ‘Handy Mandy’ is one that John describes as “an honest bopper for the raving crew.” Leading to a

signature hook-y chorus John sings “Has she got gorgeous eyes or is she just on mandy” in another tongue in cheek and unforgettable track. Concluding the EP ‘Is it Just Me’ leans into the rising talent’s Britpop influences as indie guitars bring in the intro leading up to another relatable and catchy chorus, mustbejohn connects with a generation as he sings “Is it just me who thinks they’ve been off lately? Is it just me who thinks there going crazy? Is it just me who thinks they’ve lost the plot? Is it just me, come on surely not?”

Having spent the past months picking up buzz on the back of his well received recent singles,‘BREADWINNER’ and ‘TONGUE TIED’,  Virginia born, LA based polymath Floyd Fuji today reveals his anticipated EP, ‘SUNSPOTS’. A body of work showcasing the versatility of this genre fluid artist, ‘SUNSPOTS’ sees Fuji shine as one to watch as we enter the final months of 2022. Speaking on the project, he states:

A true definition of fiery feminism, Pinkfiz is an idependent alt-rock artist hailing from Peterborough, who currently resides in London. Representing flourishing female empowerment, her anger of unjust experiences turns it into resilient rock perfection. Using her home studio, she creates euphoria with her songs, empowering others and igniting a spark amongst listeners, making them comfortable enough to scream out all their frustrations.

Her new single “318” brings Pinkfiz’s romantic fables to life. Exploring the optimism and anxiety around confrontation, she confides, “The song is about having romantic feelings for a close friend and wanting to take the relationship further but not wanting to ruin the friendship. It’s about the tension and anxiety around actually confronting the situation when both people know what’s going on.”

In her most collaborative track to date, Pinkfiz worked alongside producer Christopher Barn and drummer Chester Sturman to bring the track to life, which was later mastered by Mark Peacock. Blending the thrilling influences of Wargasm, Nova Twins and Bring Me the Horizon, with the pop-infused tones of Billie Eilish and Cassyette and Poppy, “318” resonates with the perfect fusion of empowerment and catharsis. She continues, “It’s also about the risk, excitement and adrenaline that comes with having those feelings about someone already so close to you. It covers the fantasies that unravel in your head and the uncontrollable desire to make them come true.”

Building resilience and anticipation into a truly thrilling tune, Pinkfiz exemplifies her passion for contagious euphony. As the name suggests, “318” came to be at 3:18am. It’s Pinkfiz’s hope that her music offers a moment for resonance, connection and community, as her repertoire explodes with an unparalleled outlet of emotion. With her EP The World of Pinkfiz reaching over 20,000 Spotify streams alone, and several broadcasting features on the likes of BBC Introducing Cambridgeshire, Pinkfiz is advocating her way into the alt-rock realm. Her recent single “On Your Knees” garnered humbling praise from the likes of Earmilk and Atwood Magazine, as her pure passion and fire-fuelled energy continues to ignite her career even further.
