Gable, the upcoming independent film based on the extraordinary life of Olympic wrestling champion Dan Gable, has expanded its cast with Mireille Enos, Ella Bright and Jake Picking.
Enos, known for The Killing, will portray Dan Gable’s mother, Katie, while Bright (Off Campus) will play his sister, Diane. Picking (Running Point) has also joined the project, though his role has not yet been revealed.
The trio replaces previously announced cast members Leslie Bibb and KJ Apa. Bibb departed the film after sources said she accepted a role in a major series, while Apa was forced to exit because of a scheduling conflict with Netflix’s Myron Bolitar. Bibb recently joined Brett Goldstein in Amazon’s upcoming romantic comedy Escorted.
Gable follows the remarkable true story of Dan Gable, a working-class boy from Waterloo, Iowa, who overcame devastating family tragedy to become one of the most dominant figures in the history of wrestling and combat sports.
During his high school and college career, Gable compiled an extraordinary 181-1 record. His journey ultimately led him to international competition against the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War, cementing his legacy as one of wrestling’s greatest champions.
Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders) stars in the title role, with Ben Foster also among the film’s previously announced cast.
Jon Greenhalgh, whose credits include Netflix’s Team Foxcatcher, is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Wallach (The Bay).
Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick are producing through their Impossible Dream Entertainment banner. The pair previously worked with Foster and Woody Harrelson on the Oscar-nominated 2009 drama The Messenger. Andy Barth, former chairman of Capital Guardian Trust, and Graham Manley are executive producing, with Nate Adams and David Gould also producing.
Impossible Dream Entertainment is handling sales, while Steven Beer and Robert Maslonka of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith LLP are overseeing production legal matters.
Enos, an Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony nominee, rose to prominence with her acclaimed performance in the crime drama The Killing. Her other television credits include Big Love, The Catch, Hanna and Lucky Hank, while her film work includes Gangster Squad and World War Z. She most recently appeared in the fifth season of Apple TV+’s For All Mankind and is set to star opposite Jon Hamm in MGM+’s upcoming crime thriller American Hostage, premiering September 20.
Bright, who was born in New York City and raised in London, has recently gained attention for Prime Video’s hit romantic drama Off Campus, in which she stars opposite Belmont Cameli. The series reportedly attracted 37 million views during its first seven days and has already begun production on its second season. Bright’s previous credits include Malory Towers, The Crown, where she portrayed a young Kate Middleton, and the 2018 comedy Holmes & Watson.
Picking is best known for playing Rock Hudson in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix limited series Hollywood. His other credits include Showtime’s The First Lady and Peter Farrelly’s Apple film The Greatest Beer Run Ever. He recently appeared alongside Kate Hudson and Drew Tarver in the second season of Netflix’s comedy series Running Point.
With its story centered on one of wrestling’s most legendary athletes and a growing ensemble cast, Gable is shaping up as a major sports drama focused on perseverance, family and an extraordinary competitive legacy.
