Horror movie Obsession may be heading toward a sequel or a spin-off TV series in the near future. Its director has hinted at an exciting expansion plan. Curry Barker, making his directorial debut with Obsession, currently has the film playing in theaters. The movie stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in prominent roles.
Since its theatrical release, Obsession has enjoyed a fantastic response at the box office, inspiring Barker to consider a second installment or a related TV project. Made on a modest budget of $1 million, the film was released in the U.S. on May 15, 2026, and earned $16 million in its opening weekend. It boasts a strong critical reception, holding a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a 94% on the Popcornmeter.
In a recent interview with Total Film, Barker expressed his openness to creating Obsession 2, despite acknowledging some plot flaws. He mentioned, “It’s something I don’t like to dwell on too much because it’s a bit of a plot hole—like, who are all these people making wishes?” He continued, “It really doesn’t make any sense at all.” Nonetheless, he remains enthusiastic about expanding the story. “I have a few other projects I’m excited about, but I do see the possibility of Obsession 2.”
Barker also teased a potential TV spin-off, sharing, “What really excites me is maybe an anthology series—each episode could be about a different wish that spirals out of control. I might direct the pilot with the same DP, and then invite other filmmakers to bring their own spin to it. That would be really cool.”
The official synopsis for Obsession is: “After breaking the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic gets exactly what he asked for—only to discover that some desires come with a dark, sinister price.”
Before gaining recognition with Obsession, Barker worked on a found-footage horror film called Milk & Serial in 2024, which he initially released for free on YouTube.
