Update on Remake of Classic Erotic Thriller “Single White Female” with Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell

A year after being announced, the highly anticipated remake of the 1992 cult classic erotic thriller “Single White Female” has received significant updates on its development. The new version will be led by rising stars Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell, sparking excitement among fans of the original film.

The remake has been officially titled “Single Female”. Screenwriter Sarah DeLappe, renowned for her work on the 2022 horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and her acclaimed 2016 play “The Wolves,” has been brought on board to craft the screenplay. DeLappe’s involvement adds a fresh creative perspective to the project.

Production details are still emerging. Ortega, Russell, Stacey Sher, and Marisa Paiva are set as producers. However, the film currently lacks a director and a release date.
The original “Single White Female,” directed by Barbet Schroeder and adapted from John Lutz’s 1990 novel SWF Seeks Same, starred Bridget Fonda as Allie and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Hedy. The story centers on Allie, who, after a breakup, welcomes a new roommate—Hedra—whose friendship quickly turns toxic as jealousy and violence erupt.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the original film:“Having recently split from fiancé Sam Rawson, Allison Jones welcomes new roommate Hedra Carlson. The young women quickly form a bond, but as Allison starts to rethink her engagement, Hedra grows jealous and hostile. As Allison learns new details about her roommate’s life, Hedra gets violent in her efforts to get Sam out of the picture. With Hedra turning more menacing by the minute, Allison finally understands what she’s up against.”

Jenna Ortega has been making waves recently, starring in last year’s horror comedy “Death of a Unicorn” and Netflix’s “Wednesday” Season 2. She is set to appear opposite Glen Powell in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film “The Great Beyond,” premiering on November 13.
Taylor Russell is also busy, attached to star in the South Korean sci-fi thriller “Hope,” alongside Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, and Jung Ho-yeon from “Squid Game.”
As fans await further updates, the “Single Female” remake promises to bring a modern twist to a gripping story of obsession and danger.
